Theta Delta Chi Sigma Triton is well noted for its Community Service and Philanthropy in both the Penn State Community and surrounding area.  Last spring, alone, brothers completed 1,143 community service hours, raised $26,691.21, and participated in 7 events sponsored by other Greek organizations.  For this effort, our fraternity won the CORE program and distinguished ourselves as the fraternity that participated in more community service and philanthropy than any other fraternity in the Penn State Interfraternity Council.  Our brothers use philanthropy as an opportunity to improve both themselves and their community.
Many brothers are involved with work outside of the efforts of our house as well.  Brothers hold leadership positions in many organizations on campus including THON, Homecoming, and Lion Ambassadors.

 

Philanthropic Events:

Philanthropy Football: Greek Fantasy Football

This fall, TDX is hosting the first ever Philanthropy Football with partner sorority Chi Omega.  10 teams are competing in the fantasy football league, and many more Greek organizations attended the kickoff party which took place this September.  We are proud to say that we raised more than $1,000 for the Make-A-Wish foundation.  We are excited to see which Greek Organization will win!

Christmas Philanthropy

Every Christmas season we hold our Christmas philanthropy and give underprivileged children in the area a chance to enjoy Christmas.  We invite these children over for a night full of games, food, live Christmas music, decorations, presents and Santa.  Pennharmonics, a very good singing group on campus, performs for the children, and TDX brothers enjoy the chance to hang out with the kids to have a wonderful Christmas Celebration.

Easter Olympics

In Spring 2010 we hosted our first ever Easter Olympics event.  During this event various groups competed in Easter related events.  Eggs were hidden in hay, Peeps were thrown off the roof and caught, people through eggs at frying pans and balanced them on spoons, and everyone had a good time competing at the Easter Olympics.

 

THON

THON is the largest student run philanthropy in the world, and our brothers are excited to be a part of this great cause.  Together, with partner sorority Alpha Delta Pi, we raise money and participate in various events helping children with cancer.  THON has raised more than $69 million dollars to date.  Brothers solicit donations, maintain contact with an affected family, dance in a nonstop 46 hour dance marathon, and attend numerous other events for the cause.  Last year TDX and ADPi raised $54,469.88.

Community Service Events:

Blood Drives
Theta Delta Chi hosts at least one blood drive each semester.  Brothers recruit donors, and work on the day of the event to help run the drive.  Many of our brothers and their friends will also give blood on these occasions.

Habitat for Humanity
We like to host building days for Habitat for Humanity.  On these days, brothers work together to help build homes.  It’s always exciting to see how much can be accomplished in one day just from our members’ hard work.

Relay for Life
Last spring our house participated for the first time in Relay for Life.  Brothers created a team and took turns walking for 24 hours straight to benefit cancer research.
